The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove - Lauren Kate

The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove

All it takes is one fatal mistake...

High School beauty Natalie Hargrove has spent years plotting to become prom queen. She's got just what it takes: popularity, glamour and ruthless ambition.

When someone threatens to overturn her perfect plan, Natalie needs to take control. But a critical error plunges her into a sea of secrets, shame and scandal. Because it turns out there's one thing even Natalie Hargrove can't command - and that's fate.

I heard about this book through the author Lauren Kate. I had previously read Fallen and enjoyed it so I wanted to see what else Lauren could produce. I was intrigued reading the blurb on the back. It seemed different from her usual genre, but I was interested so being the OCD book buyer I went ahead and bought it (: Even thought the book pretty much promised a high school story with no mystical creature, I guess deep down I was expecting one, so the story turned out differently to what I imagined in the end. I got 'into' this book very easily. It wasn't as if I sunk into my reading trance I get when I read a book, but I enjoyed reading it and picked it up a lot. There is an element of love in the story with Natalie and her boyfriend Mike, but it is not all about it, so I found it very re-freshing to read. A nice break from all the usually fantasy love stories that dominate the Young Adult market these days (not that I don't love a good vampire love story). With the ending I found that Lauren did the job well. She ended it in a way that was possible and which ended things, neatly (if not nicely) for the story. It was a good read and I would read it again (:
